CLYDE CANTOR OBITUARY

Clyde Cantor, 85, of the Gladdice Community, passed away September 16, 2006 at the Carthage General Hospital. Born October 1, 1920, in the Difficult Community of Smith County, TN, he was a son of the late George Allen and Viola Belle (Sircy) Canter. He is survived by his devoted wife of 64 years, Helen (Givens) Canter, to whom he was married July 8, 1942, in Rossville, Walker Co., GA,; daughter Fay Leonard; five grandchildren: Ronnie Leonard Jr., Ben Leonard and wife Michelle, Eric Leonard and wife Lesa, Dan Leonard and wife Leah, and Melissa Leonard; and one sister, Sue Hines of Nashville. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister Georgia Cook and a brother W. J. Cantor. Mr. Cantor is also survived by nine grandchildren: Ronald III and Matthew from Ronnie Jr.; Nicole, Ethan and John W. from Eric; Blake and Garrison from Daniel; Anna Brooke and Natalie from Benjamin. Mr. Cantor was a farmer in Jackson and Smith Counties and was a faithful member of the Bagdad Church of Christ for over 50 years. He was a veteran of World War II in the Armed Forced and saw active duty in the European theater for 3 years.
Mr. Cantor is at the Hackett Chapel of Sanderson Funeral Home where his service will be conducted Monday afternoon at 1:00 p.m. with Edward L. Anderson and Donald Chaffin officiating. Interment with full Military Honors in the Witcher Cemetery.

Military service: He was a proud veteran of World War II, serving with the 455th Anti Aircraft Artilery (AAA) Weapons Battalion., Battery 'A' and 'D', Gun Crew #1, in Gen. George S. Patton's Third Army. His date of induction was 18 Jul 1942, and the date of entry into active service was 3 Aug 1942. He was honorably discharged on 24 Oct 1945, making his length of service 3 yrs 3 months and 7 days. His unit served in England, France, & Germany and was in Austria at the end of the war. He received several medals including the EAME Theater Ribbon with 4 bronze stars, and the Good Conduct Medal. # 34 360 646 Private First Class.
