BENTON, Wis. -- Chloe I. Birkett, 68, of Benton, died Tuesday, Nov. 10, 2009, at Southwest Health Center Nursing Home, Cuba City.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 14, at United Methodist Church, Benton, with the Rev. Rodney Johnson officiating. Burial will be in Hazel Green Cemetery, Hazel Green. Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. Friday, Nov. 13, at Casey Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Cuba City. Friends also may call from 9 to 10:15 a.m. Saturday at the church.
She was born on Aug. 15, 1941, in Dubuque, daughter of William and Elizabeth "Evelyn" (Baker) Gregory. She married Robert Birkett on Dec. 6, 1958; he preceded her in death on June 9, 1994.
In addition to being a housewife and mother of four, Chloe had a variety of interests and abilities. She worked as a bartendress, waitress, seamstress, floral assistant and was owner of a craft shop for 20 years.
In recent years, she was very involved with supporting the local "meals on wheels" program for senior citizens by volunteering as a cook and delivering the meals.
Chloe's most cherished passions in life included spending time with her children, grandchildren and felt blessed to have a great-grandchild. She also loved spending time with her husband making crafts, camping with friends and family, playing cards and encouraging an exciting game of dominoes.
Surviving are four sons, James Birkett, of Winnebago, William (Diana) Birkett, of Stony Creek, Va., Tracy (Angie) Birkett, of Imperial, Mo., and Terry (Allison) Birkett, of Helotes, Texas; three half-sisters, Wilma (Mike) Mantch, of Rockfalls, Ill., Teresa "Tess" (Don) Taylor, of Freeport, Ill., and Nanette Olson, of Dubuque; three half-brothers, Curtis (Janice) Olson, of Largo, Fla., Noel (Marty) Olson, of Valrico, Fla., and Kevin (Gail) Olson, of Colorado Springs, Colo.; nine grandchildren; a great-grandchild; and her beloved cat, "Scoops."
She also was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Cleo Heins; and a brother, Michael Gregory.
