Gottlieb was born in Lagershausen, Hannover, Germany and must have immigrated by 1845, as that was the year he first held the lease at Lot 20, Concession 2, Ellice Township, Perth County, Ontario, Canada.
On January 21, 1847, in Ellice Township, Gottlieb married Amelia Wicke. The marriage was performed by Reverend August Kelterborn.
Gottlieb and Amelia worked the farm, earning the deed in 1855. In 1875, the farm was passed to their son, Frederick August.
Their children are as listed below, however, the Echoes of Ellice township history book claims there were two other children named Mary and John August, but I have not found evidence of them.
