Neil Cantwell Parrish, 88, of Woodland Drive, Clinton, died Sunday, May 17, 1998, at Fort Sanders Regional Medical Center in Knoxville.
Mr. Parrish had retired from Union Carbide Nuclear Division after approximately 30 years of service at the Oak Ridge Y-12 Plant.
He was born in Hamblen County on May 8, 1910, the son of Robert and Vesta McNeil Parrish. He graduated from Claiborne County High School, attended Lincoln Memorial University and graduated from East Tennessee State College.
Before going to work at Y-12, Mr. Parrish was a teacher and principal in schools in Claiborne and Anderson counties.
He was a longtime member and deacon of First Baptist Church of Clinton. Mr. Parrish was active in many civic organizations, including being a 50-year member of Alpha Masonic Lodge No. 376, F&AM, in Clinton and a member of the Knoxville Shriners, the South Clinton Lions Club and the Clinton Odd Fellows.
His family described him as well-known for his generosity to his family, friends, neighbors and those in need.
Mr. Parrish is survived by his wife, Anna W. Parrish; a son-in-law, Doyle Turner of Kingston; a granddaughter, Debbie Wall and her husband, David, of Powell; three great-grandchildren, Crystal Lowe of Powell and Samantha Wall and David Ray Wall Jr., both of Oak Ridge; a sister-in-law, Ressie Parrish of Tazewell; and by several nieces and nephews.
Karla Harmon of Tazewell, June Wright of Clinton and Jack and Cora Stokes of Lenoir City were considered special friends.
Mr. Parrish's first wife, Cleo C. Parrish, died earlier, as did a daughter, Judy P. Turner, and two brothers, Kyle Parrish and Bob Parrish.
The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, May 20, at First Baptist Church in Clinton with the Rev. Sam Dean officiating.
Burial will follow at Oak Ridge Memorial Park, with a Masonic service to be conducted at the graveside. Pallbearers will be Bob Parrish, John Parrish, David Parrish, Jerry Coulter, C.T. Haun, Darrell Lankford, Gary Harmon and Neal Buchanan. Deacons at First Baptist Church of Clinton will be honorary pallbearers.
The family will receive friends from noon to 1:45 p.m. Wednesday at the church.
