Thomas C. Ashby, son of Thomas Roy and Stella Gladys (Collins) Ashby, was born May 9, 1917, in Queen City, and died Wednesday, February 5, 1992, in a Kirksville, Mo., nursing home at the age of 74 years.

He married Esther Loeta Steen on December 23, 1939, in Kansas City, Mo. She survives.

Also surviving are three children and their families, Michael Ashby and wife Linda, and their sons, Todd and David, Blue Springs, Mo., Marilyn Kimble and husband Bert, and their children, Kori and Scott, Odessa, Mo., and Richard Ashby and wife Ann, Geneva, Ill.; two sisters, Mrs. M.W. (Ruth) Brownell, Green Castle, Mo., and Mrs. Paul (Carol) Jones, Kirksville, Mo.; and nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father in 1964; his mother in 1978; an infant grandson, Matthew Ryan Kimble in 1978; and a brother, Roy Warren Ashby in 1991.

Mr. Ashby was owner of Ashby Electric Service in Kirksville, Mo., until his health failed.

He served with the US Army in the European theater during World War II.

Services were held Saturday, February 8, 1992, in Davis-Playle Funeral Home, Kirksville, Mo., with the Rev. Robert Douglas, of First Baptist Church, officiating.

Bearers were his nephews, Jack Brownell, Bill Brownell, Jack Branscom, Perry Collins, Gary Collins, and Dale Hostetler.

Honorary bearers were Laverne Douglas, Olin Vittetoe, Edwin Smiser and Mark Van Dolah.

Burial was in Queen City Cemetery.
