Clifford Dale Ayer, son of Hurley P. and Lena (Morehead) Ayer was born March 11, 1915, in Schuyler County, and died Wednesday, June 16, 1993, in an Iowa City, Ia., veterans hospital at the age of 78 years.
Surviving are two sons, Stephen Ayer, Centerville, Ia., and Doug Ayer, Fairfield, Ia.; three grandchildren, Jason Clarke, Joseph Ayer, and Elizabeth Ayer; four sisters, Marie Nichols, Kahoka, Mo., Maxine Strickler, Kahoka, Mo., Madeline Bertelli, Iowa City, Ia., and Marjorie Laws, Stronghurst, Ill.; two brothers, Carol Ayer of North Carolina, and Alvin Ayer, Wyaconda, Mo.; and nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
Preceding him in death were his parents; four brothers, Robert Ayer, Harold Ayer, Hurley Ayer Jr., and Leland Ayer; and one sister in infancy.
Mr. Ayer grew up in Davis County, Ia. He was an Army veteran of World War II. He was a member of the VFW.
He had been a resident of Kahoka, Mo., for 20 years, where he was employed in road construction and park maintenance.
Services were held Saturday, June 19, 1993, in Norman Funeral Chapel, Lancaster, with the Rev. Gwen Trullinger officiating.
Burial was in Arni Memorial Cemetery with military rites at the graveside.
