Walter was born in Wilkes Barre, Pa., the last of nine children of William and Elizabeth Lentz. He moved to Detroit in the early '20's and began working in the banking business eventually working his way up to the manager of the Holly branch of Citizens Commercial and Savings Bank.
He was a life member of Holly Lodge 134 and in many other civic organizations.
