Jesse Theodore Greer, Jan. 11, 1927 - Feb. 19, 2009, was born in St. Joseph, Missouri to David and Esther Greer.

He enlisted in the U.S. Coast Guard at the age of 17 and served until the end of WWII, spending the next 40 years as a heavy equipment operator. While on leave, he met Alma Mae Stapp, marrying her in Springfield, Missouri on Aug. 20, 1950.

He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Alma; eight adopted children, Randall Hawkins of Oklahoma, Jesse Greer of Pennsylvania, Thomas Greer of Minnesota, Cynthia Feudale of Oklahoma, Tammy Rapponitti of Idaho, Susan Kellis of Oklahoma, Mikayla Greer of Oklahoma and Rose Proctor of California; 18 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and Joyce Packard, a close and caring friend of many years.

Jesse is often described as a "free spirit or gypsy", traveling throughout the western United States, buying and selling at local swap meets. He always came back to his beloved desert, spending much of his winters in the hot springs near Calexico.
