His home was destroyed in the 1906 San Francisco earthquake, and in the aftermath, he and his family took up residence in Tent Camp #5, Golden Gate Park. He died just five weeks later.

The newspaper notice of his passing includes the following family information: "...beloved husband of Angelina Aula and uncle of Joseph and Felix Aula and Joseph Miller."
