LAWRENCE, KANSAS ~ Mrs. Hearty (Brown) Nelson, 77, Lawrence, died Saturday at Asbury Hospital in Salina where she had been several months due to illness.
Born Nov. 4, 1886, at Schoolcraft, Mich., she was the widow of Dr. Carl F. Nelson, well-known Kansas University professor of biochemistry until his death in 1950.

Graveside services will be conducted at Oak Hill Cemetery here at 10 a.m. Tuesday.

Survivors include two sons, C. Stanley Nelson, Salina attorney, and Arthur Nelson, Weston, Mass.; a sister, Mrs. W. W. Riefler, Sarasota, Fla.; and seven grandchildren.

Mrs. Nelson earned M.A. and A.B. degrees at Michigan University, and later taught English at KU.

[Add'l info] Hearty Brown Nelson was active in the A.A.U.W. (American Association of University Women), serving as state president in 1922. She was a published author of stories and plays.

Brown - Nelson
Mr. and Mrs. Addison Makepeace Brown, of Lansing, Michigan, announce the marriage of their daughter, Hearty Earl, to Mr. Carl Ferdinand Nelson, which took place August 18. Mr. and Mrs. Nelson will be at home in Lawrence after Sept. 15.

Miss Hearty Earl Brown has been an instructor in English at the University of Kansas for several years and Dr. Nelson is Professor of Biological Chemistry in the University.
