Marenna Brittain was born in Kentucky, March 29,1827,died December 32,191 3, aged 86 years, 9 months and five days. She was Married to John Hooker , January 25,1843 in Henry County,Iowa.
To them were born four sons-William, Lewis, John, and Elijah. The family came to Kansas in 1873 and to Jewell County in 1884. The husband, two sons, Lewis and John preceded her in death. Two sons remain, Elijah of New Mexico and William of Mankato, with whom she made her home since the death of her husband, May 30,1900. Besides these there are grandchildren and other relatives and a host of friends who mourn her departure.
Sister Hooker became a Christain in early life and united with the Free Baptist Church about 20 years ago. Her church not being represented where she lived she united with the United Brethern church, where she retained membership until transferred to the church on high.

Mrs Marianna Hooker died at 11 o'clock, Wednesday morning at the home o f her son, William Hooker, on North Commercial street in this city, at the age of 86 years, 9 months and 5 days. Deceased was born in Kentucky an d has lived many years in this County and up to a few months since, was quite well and active. Funeral services will be held today.
