Abbie M. Pieper, 90, of Traverse City, passed away Thursday, Nov. 12, 2009 at Munson Hospice House.
Born in Chicago on July 27, 1919, she was the daughter of Richard and Abbie (Axe) LaSeur.
She graduated from high school there and received a scholarship in vocal performance. Abbie married Robert G. Pieper on September 30, 1939 in Chicago and he preceded her in death on March 15, 1998. For many years, the Pieper's resided in Valparaiso, IN where Abbie had been employed as the head bookkeeper for Valparaiso Univerity. Moving to Traverse City in the 1980's she and her husband became members of Trinity Lutheran Church.
Abbie is survived by her daughter Virginia "Ginny" and her husband Herb Scaer of Glen Arbor, MI; two grandsons, Matthew (Sonia) Scaer of Bainbridge Island, WA and David (Bhawana) Scaer of Roanoke, VA; her great-granddaughters, Magdalena and Hanna; a sister in law, Dorothy Pieper of Chicago, IL; cousins, Patricia Sears of Valparaiso, IN and Linda Crowley of Wanatah, IN. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
In addition to her parents and husband, Abbie was preceded in death by her sister, Marjorie Becker.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, November 17 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Traverse City with Pastor Robert Zagore officiating. Visitation will take place at the church beginning one hour prior to the service. Burial will be in Grand Traverse Memorial Gardens, Traverse City.
