Mrs. Dorothy Cardwell Davis, 72, of Winston-Salem passed away peacefully Tuesday, March 28, 2006, at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center. Dorothy was born Sept. 9, 1933, in Winston-Salem. She was preceded in death by her parents, Heggie Hayes and Tempie Newman Cardwell. She was a member of Mount Pleasant United Methodist Church and a member of the Brenda Councilman Circle. She retired from the Forsyth County schools after 25 years of service at Ibraham School. Surviving are her husband of 53 wonderful years of marriage, Walter Davis, of the home; two daughters, Kathy Mabe of Winston-Salem and Melissa Newsome and her husband, Randy, of Lake Norman; two sons, David Davis and his wife, Janet, of King and Phillip Davis and Christine Sweet of Advance; seven grandchildren; and a great-grandchild. The Davis family will receive friends from 6 to 8 this evening, March 30, at Vogler & Sons Funeral Home on Reynolda Road. The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, March 31, at Mount Pleasant United Methodist Church. Burial will follow at Gardens of Memory in Walkertown.
