Rachel Goodson (Cleckler) Narrell is the daughter of Jacob Goodson (1805-1883) and Barbara Whisenant (1813-1893). She married first to Willis Newton Cleckler (1833-1863) on 23 January 1854 in Walker County, Georgia. Together they had six known children:
1. Martha Annette Cleckler (1854-1891) m. Alley H. Strain
2. Barbara Frances Cleckler (1856-1943) m. William J. Turner
3. Susan Cornelia Cleckler (ca. 1857-ca. 1879)
4. Jacob Gordon Cleckler (1859-1908)
5. Joseph Newton Cleckler (1861-1891)
6. Edna Octavia Cleckler (1862-1899) m. Hiram LaFayette Wright
Rachel married second to Thomas Narrell and they had additional children.

Rachel traveled by train from Alabama to Gordon County, Georgia in 1891 to help with her ill daughter, Martha Annette Cleckler Strain, and stayed with her until she died on 19 November 1891. It has been said that following the Battle of Resaca Rachel rode through a field of dead soldiers and one of the things that set in her memory the most was the blood-soaked hardtack that the soldiers carried as food. It has been said that she could never eat crackers after seeing that. Also, it has been said that in her mid-sixties, Rachel was still quite active, and she had taken a horseback ride just a few days before her death.
