Most of Father Harden's brief career as a priest was spent on mission bands out of Chicago and Winchester, Tennessee. Gifted with a strong voice and an eloquent speaking style, he impressed many in the South and Midwest as one of the best Paulist preachers.
Father Harden was transferred back to New York in 1928 and, while playing with parish children near Good Shepherd Church, he suffered a stroke and died later at Roosevelt Hospital. He was 41 years of age and had been ordained twelve years.
