She was an independent Wills and Trust attorney in Charlottesville for 20 years. She received both her undergraduate and law degree from the University of Virginia. She was also a member of Grace Episcopal Church.
Survivors include her husband, Thomas Waring Best, her mother, Marie Haiss Hyde, her daughters, Christine Page and Christine's husband Frederick, of Keswick, and Jacqueline McCabe. Her stepchildren are Alice Dugan and Alice's husband David, and Lawrence Best and his wife Mona, all of Durham, NC. There are two grandchildren, Dane and Addison Dugan; and four sisters and brothers- John Hyde and his wife Rosemary, of Pasadena, CA, Jeanne and John Chacko, of Suffolk, VA, Laura and Paul Pascale, of Avon, CT and Kevin and Jackie Hyde, of Ashburn, VA. Among her many friends, special mention is due to Alice MacInnis and family.
A memorial service will be held on Monday, November 23, 2009 at 12:00 pm at Grace Episcopal Church, Rte 231 in Cismont, with Rev. Julie Norton officiating. A graveside service will be held on Saturday, November 21, 2009 at 3:00 pm at Monticello Memory Gardens.
