Norris Carl Ritchie, born October 18, 1937, in Liberty, Texas to Carl Clyde Ritchie and Mabel Ollie Bennett Ritchie, life-long resident of Dayton, Texas, died November 14, 2009 at the age of 72.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Clyde and Mabel Ritchie, brother LaMarr Clarence Ritchie, grandson Noah James Ritchie and former wife of 13 years, Minnealetha Prater Ritchie.

He is survived by wife of 23 years, Betty Jean Stoesser Ritchie; son, Mark Harold Ritchie of Katy, Texas; daughter: Tamara Lynne Ritchie of Katy, Texas; grandchildren: Lyndee Brooke Potetz of Katy, Texas, Seth David Ritchie and Samuel Jonathan Ritchie of Katy, Texas; Stepsons: John Edward Griffin of Dayton, Texas; Greg Phillip Griffin and wife Katherine Leigh Schaudt Griffin of Austin, Texas: step-grandsons Zachary Joseph Griffin and Caleb Micah Griffin of Austin, Texas. Also surviving is sister-in-law Sondra Ritchie of Baytown, Texas and several cousins, nieces and nephews.

Norris was active member of First Baptist Church in Dayton, Texas. He was a choir member and for many years, he taught Sunday School. He was a 1956 graduate of Dayton High School and attended Lamar University in Beaumont, Texas. He was a member of The Gideons International. His magnificent love and service to the Lord was experienced by many who gained by hearing God's word through Norris. The Measure of a Man is not how tall he stands, how wealthy or intelligent he was. The measure of a man God knows and understands, for He looks inside to the bottom of his heart and what's in the heart defines the measure of a man.

Norris farmed rice and was a rancher in Dayton for 13 years, was a chemical operator for Elf-Atochem in Crosby, Texas for 30 years, where he was honored by being named 1989 Region Professional Driver of the Year. After retirement, he received a License to the Gospel Ministry and served as Senior Adult Minister at First Baptist Church in Dayton for 7 years. His hobbies were fishing, singing and playing bridge.

Pallbearers are Preston Byrd, Claude Harding, Dan Harris, Timothy Lewis, Donald Ryan, Alfred Seaberg, Mark Stoesser, Scott Wallace. Honorary Pallbearers are the members of Men's 2 Sunday School Class of First Baptist Church, Dayton, and members of The Gideons International, Liberty Camp.

The family will receive friends at Pace-Stancil Funeral Home, 1304 N. Cleveland (Hwy 321) Dayton, Texas on Tuesday, November 17, 2009 from 4:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Funeral service will be 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, November 18, 2009 at First Baptist Church of Dayton, with Reverend Chris Trousdale and Rev. Robyn Byrd Michalove officiating. Burial will follow at Magnolia Cemetery in Dayton.
