OREANA COUPLE WED SECRETLY IN CLINTON
OREANA. April 26. — Friends of Miss Faustine Alice Spooner and Lee Babcock were completely surprised this week on learning of their marriage April 11 in Clinton. Both young persons are well known here.

Rev. J. W. Staley, pastor of the Clinton Christian church, performed the ceremony. Mrs. Babcock is the oldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. C. Spooner. Mr. Babcock is the son of Mrs. I. J. Babcock. The couple will live on a farm.

Funeral services for Mrs. Lester L. (Faustine) Babcock will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at the First Christian Church, with burial in the Oreana Union Cemetery.

Mrs. Babcock, 59, of 1536 N. Broadway died at 1:15 p.m. Thursday at St. Mary’s Hospital. Mrs. Babcock was born in Oreana on April 20, 1906, daughter of J. C. and Etta Strope Spooner. She moved to Decatur 20 years ago.

On April 11, 1925, she was married to Lester L. Babcock in Clinton, who survives.
Mrs. Babcock was a bookkeeper for the Rose City Express Co. She was a member of the First Christian Church and was active in church work and the choir.

She leaves her husband; a son, the Rev. Joseph L. Babcock of Nigeria, West Africa; four daughters, Mrs. James (Carol) Cross of Palm Springs, Calif.; Mrs. Larry (Barbara) Speagle of Decatur, and Ann and Lynn Ellen, both at home; a sister, Mrs. Ralph (Edna) Tucker of Decatur, and eight grandchildren.
