CHAPMANVILLE, W.Va. — Mr. James R. ‘Shorty' Farley, 70, of Chapmanville, was born December 5, 1938, at Phico, a son of the late Jim B. and Luna Francis Hale Farley. He departed this life Saturday, November 14, 2009, at his residence.

Mr. Farley was a retired truck driver from Mayo Manufacturing, a Chapmanville City Councilman, and a veteran of the U.S. Army. He was a very active for 20 years as a coach and supporter of Chapmanville area youth sports, served as the ‘Voice of the Tigers' for many years and was awarded a Distinguished Service Award from the West Virginia Athletic Association for his work as the announcer at Chapmanville High School football games, was an avid Chapmanville Tiger fan, and very active in community activities as a volunteer.

Survivors include his wife, Anita Gore Farley; one son, James ‘Scooter' (Maria) Farley of Chapmanville; four grandchildren, Amanda, James Gregory, Brandon and Brianna ; one great-grandson on the way, and a step-brother, Paul Farley of Medina, Ohio.

Services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday, November 18, at the Evans Funeral Home and Cremation Services with Greg Dalton officiating. Burial will follow in the Forest Lawn Cemetery at Pecks Mill.

Pallbearers will be Ted Ellis, Clarence Elkins, Danny Godby, Gomer Napier, Larry Coffindaffer and Ronnie "Mule" Ooten.

Honorary pallbearers will be Joy Vance, Calvin Green and Mason Mayo.

Visitation will be from 6-9 p.m. today at the funeral home.
