Lewis F. Parsly, 84, of Oak Ridge, died Monday, April 29, 2002, at Briarcliff Health Care Center.

Born Jan. 27, 1918, in Philadelphia, Pa., he was the son of Hester Anderson and Lewis F. Parsly Sr.

He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. A senior chemical engineer, Dr. Parsly was employed for 37 years in Oak Ridge. He was hired by Union Carbide Nuclear Division in 1948 and retired from Martin Marietta Energy Systems in 1985. He held a doctorate from the University of Pennsylvania.

He was a member of St. Stephen's Episcopal Church and the Brotherhood of St. Andrew. He also belonged to the Oak Ridge Bridge Club and the Sons of the American Revolution.

Dr. Parsly was an avid bridge player, and gardening and traveling were also among his interests.

He is survived by his sons, Tom Parsly and his wife, Brenda, of Franklin, Ky., and James Parsly and his wife, Patricia, of Knoxville; his daughters, Anne Puckett and Mary Parsly, both of Oak Ridge; and eight grandchildren.

He is also survived by a sister, Cornelia Walton of Pennsylvania, and two brothers, John Parsly of Michigan and James Parsly and his wife, Sally, of New Jersey.

His wife, Marjorie Parsly, died earlier.

The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, May 3, at St. Stephen's Episcopal Church with the Rev. Frank VanDevelder officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Ridge Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Martin Oak Ridge Funeral Home.
