Appearing in the "Democratic Messenger" (Fremont), 23 Jul 1885, Page 2, Col. 6, listed under the title, "Greenburg", reads:
Samuel Hartman, one of the oldest inhabitants of Scott Tp., died very suddenly, at his residence, Tuesday, July 14, at the age of 76. Cause of death supposed to have been heart disease. A few minutes before death he was out helping his son fix something with reaper, then went to the house, sat down in his chair and died without a moment's warning. Funeral services were held at Trinity church, Thursday, at 10 o'clock, Rev M Long officiating. Mr. Hartman came from Pennsylvania to Ohio at an early day. He was a man of strong constitution; many acres of forest have fallen beneath his sturdy stroke.
