My Great Grandfather John S. Gayhart was born May 19, 1887 in Vest, Knott County, Kentucky. He is the son of Elhanan H. "E.H." Gayhart and Catherine "Katie" Vanderpool Gayhart.

John S. Gayhart married first Margaret Cornett (The daughter of Manton Cornett and Julia Unknown) on July 3, 1910 in Knott County, Kentucky.
John S. and Margaret had one son -1.Carl Cornett
John and Margaret divorced.

John S. Gayhart married second Maggie Stone (The daughter of Marion Stone and Chloe Ann Maynard) on February 6, 1920 in Alpharetta, Floyd County, Kentucky. Maggie is my Great Grandmother.

The Children of John S. Gayhart and Maggie Stone Gayhart are :
1. Lamberta Gladys "Bertie" Gayhart (My Grandma)
2. Dallas Gayhart
3. Jule Damon Gayhart

Sadly, Maggie got pneumonia and passed away in 1924 when she was just 20 years old, leaving John a widower with 3 small children. My Grandma was only three years old, Dallas was two years old and Jule was less than a year old. A few months later my Grandma's youngest brother, Jule also passed away. He is buried next to his mother Maggie.

After Jule's death, John S., stricken with grief over the loss of his wife and son, sent the remaining two children to stay with relatives.

My Grandma (Lamberta) lived with various relatives until her father married again for the third and final time to Evelyn Trent ( a widow with one daughter, Susa Johnson) on April 21, 1928 in Blue Diamond, Kentucky. My Grandma was staying with her Aunt Cindy White (Lucinda Gayhart White)sister of John S.Gayhart when a cousin named Joe Gayhart drove up in a horse drawn wagon to pick my Grandma up and drive her to her father's and new stepmother's house. She was 6 years old.

John S. Gayhart and Evelyn Trent Gayhart had 10 children.

4.Eulis Franklin "Frank" Gayhart- Born July 15, 1933 Died January 25, 1997

5.Harriett Gayhart- Born May 1, 1935 Died September 11, 1935

6. Martha Gayhart Combs- (Twin to Mary) Born March 5, 1937 Died July 31, 1997
