George Tierney Dies; Was 59

George H. Tierney, 59, of 77 Hill street [Shelton], Shelton Postmaster since 1971, died today in Griffin hospital, Derby.

Services will take place Monday at 9:15 a.m. in the Frager funeral home, 241 Coram avenue, and at 10 o'clock in St. Joseph church. Burial will be in Riverside cemetery.

Mr. Tierney was born in Shelton and was a member of the Catholic Men's club of St. Joseph's church, an executive board member of the Boy Scouts of America, past president of the Derby-Shelton Rotary club, and a member of the lay board of St. Joseph's church. He was also a member of the advisory board of the Ansonia Savings Bank, of the K. of C. Bernardo Council, of the Postmasters Association, and the Griffin Hospital Corporation. He also was a U.S. Army Air Corp veteran of World War II.

Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Florence Ryan Tierney of Shelton; a daughter, MRs. Beverly Matthews of Stratford; a sister, Mrs. Margaret Bilgrin of Hillsboro, Fla.; and three grandchildren.
