Claire Lovisa Klarer, age 90, a long time Park Rapids-Ponsford, MN area resident, peacefully passed away on Monday, May 19, 2009 at the Sunnyside Care Center near Lake Park, MN with her loved ones at her side.
Claire was born on June 10, 1918 in Fergus Falls, MN to Herman and Myrtle (Hinton) Jordan. As a small girl, she moved with her family to the Ponsford, MN area where she attended the Bongo Country School near her home. As a young woman she ventured to Oregon where she worked for a time and was united in marriage to Harry Edward Klarer of Ponsford, MN. The young couple returned to Ponsford where they engaged themselves in dairy farming and raising six children: Eugene, Judy, Gary, Max, Carol and Jill. Claire devoted herself to making a loving home for her husband and children. She was a wonderful cook and baker who will be long remembered for her delicious home made breads, potato salads and her cucumber & tomato salad. Claire's life was forever changed and saddened by the sudden and unexpected death of her husband in 1969 while her two youngest daughters were still at home. A short time following his death, Claire moved into Park Rapids where she made her home for many years with her sister Elvira (Sis) until failing health caused her to become a resident of the Sunnyside Care Center of Lake Park, MN in 2005. Claire was a long time and faithful member of the Faith Baptist Church in Park Rapids. In her quiet times, she enjoyed crocheting and knitting. For many years, Claire enjoyed volunteering at the Senior Citizens Center in Park Rapids. She had a close relationship with her sister, Elvira Dewandler and enjoyed their visits and long walks together. Above all, Claire dedicated her life to her children and grandchildren whom she loved with all her heart. She will be lovingly remembered by her four surviving children: Judy (George) Cressel of LaQuey, MO, Max (Karen) Klarer of Ogema, MN, Carol Worrel of Perris, CA and Jill (Michael) Barnes of Pequot Lakes, MN; 21 grandchildren; 23 great grandchildren as well as great great grandchildren; her sister, Elvira Dewandler of Park Rapids; her brother, Benjamin Jordan of Springfield, Oregon and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Claire was preceded in death by her husband, Harry; her two sons: Eugene and Gary; One grand-daughter Sarah who died in infancy; one grandson Billy who died at age 41, two sisters: Elsie and Laura, and two brothers: Chester and Edward.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Friday, May 22, 2009 at the Jones-Pearson Funeral Home in Park Rapids with the Reverend Russ Paulson officiating. The organist will be Dwayne Cook.
