Jewel E. Holland age 90 of Bartlesville, Oklahoma died Thursday, October 29, 2009 at the Jane Phillips Medical Center in Bartlesville, Oklahoma.
Funeral Services were held at 1 p.m., Monday, November 2, 2009 at the Potts Chapel in Caney, Kansas with the Reverend Bill Wright officiating. Burial followed in the Sunnyside Cemetery under the direction of the Potts Chapel in Caney, Kansas.
The family has suggested memorials to the American Diabetes Association or the Oklahoma Retired Education Association and contributions may be left at the Potts Chapel in Caney, Kansas.
Jewel was born February 19, 1919 in Wann, Oklahoma to W.B. and Sarah E. (Maxwell) Taylor. She grew up in Wann, Oklahoma and graduated from the Wann High School in 1937. Jewel also graduated from the Oklahoma College for Women in Chickasha, Oklahoma in 1941 with a Bachelor of Science Degree.
On February 21, 1945 Jewel married Joe Holland in Nowata, Oklahoma he preceded her in death on July 14, 1998. Jewel taught at Wann Public Schools for several years and also various schools in Northern Nowata and Washington County. She was a lifetime member of the First United Methodist Church in Wann, Oklahoma, a member of the Antioch Extension Club in Washington County, Oklahoma, and the Eastern Star.
Survivors include two sons John T. and wife Janice Holland of Bartlesville, Oklahoma and James Wesley and wife Vicky Holland of Copan, Oklahoma; one daughter Marcia Jo Holland of Edmond, Oklahoma; one step daughter Jan and husband Gene Kelly of Severy, Kansas; 8 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Joe; and all her siblings Connie M. Taylor, Frank Taylor, Mattie McCormick, Sam Taylor, Wilma Wade and Velma Nafus.
