He was born Sept. 19, 1920, in Barney, Brooks County, to the late Herbert Daniel and Mary Ellen Howard Baker. He was a retired veteran of the U.S. Navy and Army, an insurance agent and a member of Berlin Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife, Wilma Olliff Baker of Valdosta; a son, Dan Baker of Valdosta; two daughters and sons-in-law, Wanda and Frank Taylor of Lilburn, Glynda and Charles Lane of Valdosta; four grandchildren, Zack Whitfield, Daniel Taylor, Bethany Taylor and James Taylor; and one sister, Belle Ragan of Tifton. He was preceded in death by three brothers, L.D., Bobbie and L.C. "Had" Baker.
Graveside funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 18, 2006, in Hopewell Cemetery with the Rev. Benny Olliff officiating. Honorary pallbearers will be the Berlin Masonic Lodge No. 465. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. this evening (February 17, 2006). Harrell Faircloth Funeral Home, Moultrie.
