Frances May Akers, 89, Bloomington, Minn., formerly of Nevada, died Monday, Aug. 1, 1988, in Bloomington after an illness of several years.
Born Sept. 10, 1898, in Rinehart, she was the daughter of Garrett Henry and Louella Pearl (Hart) Summers. She was married Sept. 19, 1919, in Nevada to Rhodes Akers. He died July 19, 1957. She was a member of the First Christian Church of Nevada, where she served on the church board, organized church dinners and was a member of the Christian Women's Fellowship and the Anna Clack Guild. She was also a member of the Rebekah Lodge. She taught school for a couple of years in Vernon County. She had lived in Vernon County most of her life except for four years in Bronson, Kan., with her uncle, while finishing high school. She had moved to Minnesota in 1985.
Survivors include three sons, Rhodes E. Akers of Bloomington, James Akers of Calamizon, Mich., and Joe Akers of Midland Park, N.J.; two sisters, Corine Miller of Nevada and Alta Ellis of Lawrence, Kan.; five grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Aug. 5, at Ferry Funeral Home in Nevada with Dr. Daryl Donovan officiating. Interment will be in Newton Burial Park.
The family will receive friends from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Friday in the funeral home chapel, where friends may call Thursday and until the hour of service.
