Jack G. Wallenda, Sr., Born April 2, 1926, at rest November 21, 2009. Married 61 years to the late, loving, Stella Wallenda (nee Sarna). The loving father of seven children, Jack, Jr., William, James (Marion), Sandra, Patricia (Bruce) Beauchamp, Donna (John) Murphy, C.P.D. and Sharon (Joseph, Jr.) Lopez. Proud grandfather of twelve grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.

Served in the U.S. Army, Philippines, 1945-1946. Assigned to the 7th Infantry Division, medium tank driver, receiving the Philippine Liberation Ribbon and Asiatic Pacific Theater Ribbon. Member in good standing V.F.W. Post 854. Honorable Discharge November 15, 1946.

Retired Chicago Police Area 2 Homicide Detective Star #2789, 1955 – 1979. Dogged Detective of the "Richard Speck" mass murder investigation of July 14, 1966. Investigator for the Cook County States Attorney. Chief Investigator for the Illinois Attorney General under William J. Scott. Appointed executive director of the Illinois Liquor Control Commission by Commission Chairman Albert D. McCoy, effective June 16, 1977. Wallenda, who was chief investigator for Atty. Gen. William J. Scott, replaced Thomas Murphy, who resigned. Retired from public service in May of 1991.
