Mrs Whistler Dead -- Many people in this locality regretted to learn last week of the death of Mrs. Catharine Whistler, which occurred in Wabash on the morning of November 7. Heart trouble was the immediate cause of death, though her health had been failing for some time. Her condition was not thought to be immediately serious until Monday night, when her nurse noticed alarming conditions, and she died before any of her relatives could be summoned. The funeral services took place Thursday afternoon from the First Methodist church, conducted by Rev. Harkness, assisted by Rev. Charles Little. Catharine Signs was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Solomon Signs, and was born in Wayne county, Ohio on January 2, 1836. In 1846 with her parents, she moved to the northern part of Wabash county. In 1852, she was married to John Whistler. After being in business at Liberty Mills, North Manchester and Clinton, Ohio, Mr. Whistler in 1864 moved to a farm a mile south of Wabash, and after ten successful years, moved to Wabash in 1874. Mr. Whistler died in 1895. They were the parents of nine children, five surviving, being David Whistler of this city, William of Marion, and John, Clinton and George of Wabash. Mrs. Whistler is also survived by four brothers and one sister, Peter and Lewis Signs of this city, Mahlon Signs of Elkhart, Wesley Signs of South Bend, and Mrs. Simon Ward of Wabash. Mrs. Whistler was a woman well rspected on every side. She was a life long member of the Methodist church, and lived a life consistent with its principles.
