Mr. Richard Alfred Conner, age 83, died Sunday, September 20
Mr. Richard Alfred Conner, age 83, of Old NC Highway 18, Wilkesboro, died Sunday, September 20, 2009 at Britthaven of Wilkesboro. Mr. Conner was born January 19, 1926 in Worcester County, Massachusetts to Wesley and Eleanor Cave Conner . He was preceded in death by his wife, Jeanette Shumate Conner; one son, David Richard Conner; and a step son, Terry Miles. He was a World War II US Marine Veteran.
Surviving are his companion, Frances Edwards of Wilkesboro; two step sons, Roger Miles of Millers Creek, Alan Miles and wife Joanne of North Wilkesboro; one step daughter, Portia Wyatt and husband Lewis of Wilkesboro; eight step grandchildren; and sixteen step great grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, September 23, 2009 at Miller Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Van Wyatt officiating. Burial with military rites by VFW Post 1142 followed in Scenic Memorial Gardens. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to Hospice of Wilkes, 1907 West Park Drive, North Wilkesboro, NC 28659 or to the VFW Post 1142, PO Box 357, North Wilkesboro, NC 28659.
