Dora Marie Burnett, 89, blessed her family and loved ones as she completed her earthly life on November 22, 2009 at her home in Hale Center, Texas. Dora touched many lives with her love and humor.
Dora was born on October 15, 1920 in Hale Center to Floyd Ferguson and Marie née Galt Fergason. She grew up on a farm in Hale Center and graduated from Hale Center High School. She married Claude A. Burnett on October 25, 1938. She later opened Dora's Tot Shop in the 1950's before working with her husband at the Claude A. Burnett Agency for 39 years, during which time she earned her insurance and real estate licenses. Dora also taught Sunday school at the First United Methodist Church for many years.

Those left to cherish her memory are her loving husband and best friend for 71 years, Claude Burnett Sr.; son, Claude Burnett Jr.; daughter-in-law, Debbie Burnett; grandchildren, Alex Burnett and his wife Mary, and Teresa Hill and her husband John; and great-grandchildren, Kaitlyn, Megan, Logan, and Sarah; nieces Marilyn King and her husband, Jackie and Billie Dee Davis; nephew Don Davis and his wife Lisa; and many great-nieces and nephews.

Dora was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Betty Jo Davis and Mary Kathleen Ewen; and nephews, Ron and Gary Davis.

Services were be held at 2:00 pm on Wednesday, November 25, 2009 at the First United Methodist Church in Hale Center with Rev. Jimmy Cameron officiating. Burial followed in Hale Center Cemetery with arrangements by Abell Funeral Home and Flower Shop.
