Mr. Chester was born Jan. 23, 1938, in Cherokee County, the son of Elmer and Dessie Naomi Thomas Chester. He was a U.S. Army veteran, having served in the Korean Conflict and an active member of Tabernacle Baptist Church, devoting all his available time to the Tabernacle Television Ministry.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, O'Neal Chester; his son-in-law, Thomas Gouger; and his stepmother, Inez Chester.
Surviving are his wife, Glenda Chester of Cartersville; children, Michelle and Randy Baker, Jeff and Rachael Chester, all of Centre, Ala., and Karen Gouger of Chattanooga, Tenn.; grandchildren, Michael, Chris, Amy and Taylor Baker, Lauren, Ben and Gabe Chester, Matthew and Daniel Gouger; a great-grandchild, Allie Baker; a brother and sister-in-law, Grady and Kate Chester of Canton; and nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held Monday, Aug. 13 at 1p.m. at Tabernacle Baptist Church with Dr. Don Hattaway officiating.
The family will receive friends at the church Monday from 11a.m. to 1p.m.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Tabernacle Baptist Church Television Ministry.
