Mrs. Mary Strait
Mary Malinda Holcomb, daughter of John and Polly Holcomb and the youngest of 13 children, was born near Hitt, Missouri, September 27, 1861 and departed this life Tuesday morning August 9, 1938 at the age of 76 years, 10 month and 12 days.
On the 12th day of March 1889, she was joined in marriage to William Carosso Strait. To this union five children, Goldie Fisher; Faye Roush; Chloe Price; Lee H.; and Mildred Campbell, were born, all of whom survive. She is also survived by one step-son Samuel Roy who has always been life one of her own children, 18 grandchildren, a niece, Etta Ferris, a nephew William Holcomb and a number of other relatives and a host of friends. She was preceded in death by her dear and beloved husband, two step-daughters, one great grandson, her father and mother and 12 brothers and sisters. Nearly 48 years ago she came to Iowa and lived near Lebanon with the exception of the last 8 years during whch(err) time she has made her home with her children, being at the home of her son, Lee at the time of her passing. When but a small child she united with the Baptist church near Hitt, Mo. After making her home in Iowa she joined the Lebanon Presbyterian church and remained a faithful member until death. May the hearts of those who mourn be comforted by her faith in immortality. Funeral services conducted by the Rev. C.H. Orf, of the Keosauqua Methodist church, were held from the Lebanon Presbyterian church on Thursday, August 11, 1938 at 10:00 a.m. Burial was in the Lebanon cemetery.
