Lucy was the daughter of Henry C. Schoonover of Lewis County, West Virginia and Annie Muskrat of Muskogee County, Oklahoma. Henry died in Muskogee in 1907. Some researchers show Amanda McHenry Haymond of Lewis County, West Virginia, as being Lucy's mother but she died in Muskogee in 1876 before Lucy was born. Lucy's mother was Annie Muskrat, Henry's second wife and a full-blood Cherokee who had came to Oklahoma (Indian Territory) with her family on the Trail of Tears.

Lucy's known full siblings are as follows:

Lucy died in Houston, Texas, of acute bronchopneumonia and arteriosclerosis. She was living with her son, Albert Laurence, at 419 Altic St. at the time of her death. Her oldest son George also had moved from Oklahoma to Houston to be with his mother and brother. Albert was the reporting party for Lucy's Texas Death Certificate and he stated that Lucy's mother was "Queen Looney" and it is so noted on the certificate. What is interesting, is that some researchers have reported her mother to have been a "Queen Looney" and her Texas Death Certificate list her mother as "Queen Victoria". Neither of these names has been been verified with any records that this researcher is aware of and is believed to have been a fabrication perpetrated by her son Albert. Lucy did have a younger sister named Victoria however.

Lucy had the following children with her husband William Laurence:
George Curence Laurence
William Andrew Francis Laurence
Albert Beauregard Laurence
Fay Gene Laurence (Frye)
