Hanly C. Roe , 87 , of Bella Vista , died Sunday , July 1 , 2001 , at Kings Nursing and Rehab Center in Hanford , Calif..He was born Feb. 4 , 1914 , in Rocky Ford , Colo. , to Walter L. and Olive Opal Roe.

He retired from American Crystal Sugar Co. in 1979 after 40 years , serving the company in Rocky Ford , Colo. ; East Grand Forks and Crookston , Minn. ; at the general offices in Moorhead , Minn. ; and in Clarksburgh , Calif..He worked as a consultant with Mazer Chemical Co. from 1979 to 1994.

He moved to Bella Vista in 1979.He was a member of Bella Vista Community Church , Bentonville/Bella Vista Lions Club for 18 years , and Scimitar Shrine for 23 years.He was a 32nd degree Mason and past master in the Scottish Rite ; a member of Order of the Eastern Star for 66 years and a past patron for 53 years ; and a 57-year lifetime member and past exalted ruler of BPO Elks Lodge..

He received the Legion of Honor award from the Order of DeMolay and the Lion of the Month award in Bentonville.

He was preceded in death by his first wife , Martha Strouse Roe ; his second wife , Vivian Cooper Roe ; a brother ; and a sister.

Survivors include his daughter , Elizabeth Ellen Hartson of Oklahoma City ; a son and daughter-in-law , David and Carolyn Roe of Hanford , Calif. ; five grandchildren , Kelly Roe , Rona Schutt , Steven Hartson , Michael Hartson and Tony Hartson ; eight great-grandchildren and many cousins.

A memorial service was held at 2 p.m. Thursday , July 12 , at Bella Vista Community Church with the Rev. David McKay officiating.Arrangements are by Callison-Lough Funeral Service of Gravette. (The Weekly Vista Published on: 7/20/2001)
