Mr. James B. Ammons, 82, of Lake City, died early Friday morning, November 20, 2009 at his residence following an extended illness. A native of Marion, South Carolina, Mr. Ammons had been a resident of Columbia County since 1949 having moved here from South Carolina. Mr. Ammons was the son of the late Walker and Rosa Rogers Ammons. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army having served during the Korean Conflict. Mr. Ammons owned and operated Ammons Used Cars for many years. He was an avid fisherman and loved the trade of black smithing. Mr. Ammons was preceded in death by a daughter, Janice B. Ammons and a grandson, Jessie Ammons.
Mr. Ammons is survived by his wife of fifty-nine years, Beverly Chapman Ammons; three sons, James B. Ammons Jr. (Betty) Inverness, Florida; Mark D. Ammons (Lora) Lake City; Barry A. Ammons (Theresa) Inverness, Florida; three daughters, Glenda King (Glenwood) Lake City; Marion L. Stallings (Norm) Sanford, Florida; Tammie E. Ammons, Lake City; and a brother Robert Lee Ammons of Marion, South Carolina. Thirteen grandchildren, Billy Langston, Lillian, James and Maryann Cassidy; Jared Combs (Amy); Christopher Hancock (Heather); Lauren and Michelle Shashy; Aaron Ammons (Whitney); Cody Ammons (Sunshine); Pete King, Dalton and Jacob Ammons and eleven great-grandchildren also survive.

Graveside funeral services with Military Honors for Mr. Ammons will be conducted at 11:00 A.M., Monday, November 23, 2009 in Memorial Cemetery. A private family visitation will be held.
