J N Abernethy Buried at Houlka

Jasper N Abernethy, member of a long prominent Northeast Mississippi family, who died at Mathiston Sunday, Dec. 29, at 9 o'clock was laid to rest in the Rose Hill Cemetery in Old Houlka, Friday, Dec. 30. He was 66.

Funeral services were conducted from the Baptist Church in Houlka at 10:30 Friday morning with the Rev. George T Hicks, Jr., and the Rev. G A McCoy. Kilgore-Norman Funeral Home was in charge.

Military rites were conducted for Mr. Abernethy, a veteran of World War I, at the graveside.

B C Hill served as chaplain. Color-bearers were: Cecil Thweatt, Cameron Pumphrey, Red Hardin, and Jake Kendall.

Pallbearers were: H H Carpenter, Cleve Doss, Doss Lowry, Doyle Davis, Red Ford and John Brand.

A retired Jeweler, he had resided in Mississippi all of his life. He was the son of the late W L Abernethy of Alabama and the late Frances Savely Abernethy of Mississippi.

He was born Nov. 19, 1889.

He leaves five brothers, Thomas W of Eupora, Walter L of Durrant, E G of Ruleville, Curtis of New Jersey and Mitchell of New York; four sisters, Mrs. June Cronen, Mrs. Belan Morris and Mrs. Lorene Smith, all of New York, and Mrs. Vester Brown of Gideon.

He was an uncle of the Hon. H B Abernethy of Houston and Congressman Thos. G Abernethy of Okolona and Washington, D C.
