Earl R. Townsend
Earl R. TOWNSEND, 71, 427 Jefferson street, died at his home at 2:40 a.m. today of generalized carcinoma. He had been in failing health six months.
Born Nov. 12, 1896 in the Mount Olive community of Fulton county, he was the son of John and Eva MARTIN TOWNSEND. He had resided most of his life in Fulton county and the Cutler community south of Logansport. He and his wife owned the Townsend Regal grocery store at Cutler about 20 years. He was married Feb. 5, 1918 in Fulton county to Mildred THORSTENSON.
Mr. and Mrs. Townsend owned and operated a farm in the Burton community for a number of years and he also was a cattle buyer for McMahan farms. Mr. Townsend was a member of the First Baptist church here.
Surviving with the wife are two daughters, Mrs. Earl (Irene) ROBINSON, Leesburg, and Mrs. Sam (Barbara) NELSON, R.R. 4, Logansport; five grandchildren, and one great-grandchild. A son, Earl L. TOWNSEND, a pilot during World War II, was killed in action. Two sisters, Mrs. Otto McMAHAN and Mrs. Tom McMAHAN, also preceded in death.
Last rites will be at 2 p.m. Friday at the Foster & Good funeral home with the Rev. Donald LAMBERT officiating. Burial will be in the Rochester I.O.O.F. cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home after 2 p.m. Thursday.
