Crookston Notes

Date: Wednesday, August 30, 1922 Paper: Grand Forks Daily Herald (Grand Forks, ND) Volume: XLI Issue: 260 Page: Three

Funeral services for Louis Olson were conducted Monday afternoon from the Norwegian Lutheran church with the Rev. P.E. Moen officiating. Mr. Olson who died of meningitis following an operation was 24 years old. He had been making his home with his mother in Hammond Township. Five sisters and a twin brother survive.

Notes: Rev. Peter E. Moen
Find A Grave Memorial# 101609924

Notes: Louis died at age 24 years and 7 days from Meningitis or cerebral meningitis, which was directly related to an infected nasal. His death took place at a local hospital in Crookston, about one week after having an operation on his nose.

Notes: Meningitis is a serious inflammation of the meninges, the thin, membranous covering of the brain and the spinal cord. Meningitis is most commonly caused by infection (by bacteria, viruses, or fungi), although it can also be caused by bleeding into the meninges, cancer, diseases of the immune system, and an inflammatory response to certain types of chemotherapy or other chemical agents. The most serious and difficult-to-treat types of meningitis tend to be those caused by bacteria. In some cases, meningitis can be a potentially fatal condition.

Louis had been living at home on his mothers farm (Section No. 21, Hammond Township), about 10 miles south of Crookston, Polk, Minnesota. This was the same farm that his family have lived on for several years. Louis's father B.J. Olson proceeded him in death in 1919. He died from Chrome Nephritis which he had for 5 months and passed away at a hospital.

Son of Bendick Jergesen Olsen aka; B.J. Olson/Olsen and Olena Matilda Larsen. His parents were born in Norway.

His twin brother Arthur "Art" spelled their surname "Olsen".
Notes: One Death records had Louis's mother's name incorrectly recorded as Olivia Larson, but recorded his father's name as B.J. Olson.

Notes: According to burial records from the Oakdale Cemetery, Louis died on August 26, 1922, at age 24. That was his burial date not death date.
