Born in Austria in 1873, he came to this country at the age of 16, locating in Colorado, where he was employed as a miner. On Oct. 15, 1899, he was married to Helene Vidmar at Leadville, Colo, The couple came to the town of Vilas in 1916. Following retirement in 1946 they moved to Antigo. Mrs. Zaitz died March 18, 1959.
Surviving are three daughters and four sons, Mrs. Louis (Mary) Chadek of Pelican Lake, Mrs. Charles (Helen) Malish and Albert of Deerbrook, Rose of Fresno, Calif., Frank of Gleason, John of Antigo and Joseph of Sioux City, Ia.
Other survivors are a sister, Mrs. Joseph (Mary) Merkum of Chicago; 20 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren.
Mr. Zaitz was a member of St. John's Catholic church.
