Clarence was born to Henry & Sarah Rawlings. Henry was on a Mormon wagon train as a child. Sarah was born in Provo to parents who had crossed in the wagon trains. The were early pioneer settlers of Provo.

He was the oldest of 3 children. His baby sister died as an infant. He became a tall man, 6'1 with grey eyes & brown hair.

The small family of 4 moved from Provo to Salt Lake when he was 18 in 1896. He had a very large extended family there & I suspect the job opportunities were better.

His first job at age 18 was a waiter at L.W. Dittman, 537 E. 3rd, Salt Lake.

He met Em Rawlings, a beautiful, fun lady. She moved to Salt Lake at age 18. He married the love of his life, Emma Vilate Elsmore Rawlings on Feb. 22, 1899 in Salt Lake City. She, also, was from a pioneer family in American Fork.

Later in 1896, he started working for the railroad as a fireman, then Inspector and worked his way up until he became an Engineer for Union Pacific in Salt Lake.

They moved to Denver in 1922 to take the job of Superintendent of Air Brakes for Denver & Rio Grand Railroad. He was a railroad man for 36 yrs. He also was VP of the American Airbrakes Association. He had to travel extensively around the country with his job.

His Masonic membership was w/ Blue Lodge, Acacia SLC, and Colorado Consistory No. 1 in Denver. He was a 32nd degree Mason of the Scottish Rite.(1370 Grant St) Rose Croix.

His family remembers him as a loving, gentle, caring man who helped raise a daughter & granddaughter. Sadly, he passed just 2 days before their 46th wedding anniversary at midnight Tues. He is dearly missed & always in our prayers.
