Though family tradition indicates her given name was Margaret Rebecca, the Rebecca can not be confirmed. She is listed as Margreth in the 1870 Census, Maggie in both the 1880 and 1910 Censuses and Marry in 1900. She is listed as Maggie on the family record in her German Bible, in her Widow's Pension Application, her Polk County will and probate settlement and Margaret on her headstone. The 1900 and 1910 Censuses indicate she was Naturalized, but to date no naturalization records have been located. Born in Prussia, she emigrated to the United States in 1851, at age six, with two brothers: Fred and Gus Gumph (or Gumbert as indicated in her German Bible). Gus Gumph died as a young man in a railroad accident and Fred served as a Union soldier during the Civil War, this according to her son, Uncle Matt. Fred or Frederick Gumph (18 Feb. 1843 in Lehrbach, Hesse-Darmstadt, Prussia - 11 June 1890 in Lincoln County, Washington bur. Garfield Cemetery, Oakesdale, Whitman County, Washington), FindAGrave Memorial #63725225). He married Harriet N. "Hattie" Hughes (1854 - 1914) on 30 Jan. 1873 in Moaweoqua, Shelby County, Illinois.
Olive Fisher Hall and other of her grandchildren, always remembered fondly the Sunday dinners when family would gather at her house. Afterward, there would be singing in the parlor around her upright foot pump organ.

She and Mathias "Matt" Buckle were married on Oct. 19, 1868 in Hamilton County, Ohio.
