Garland Nathaniel Ellison passed away in Temple, Texas on October 3, 2007. Interment of his ashes will be at the Texas State Veterans Cemetery at Abilene on Monday, November 30, 2009 at 11:00 A.M.
Garland was born on August 18, 1916 in Clyde, Callahan County, Texas to Fred and Nila Ellison.
Garland served in the United States Air Force for many years (during WWII and after.)
Garland married Sunshine "Sunnye" Allen in 1940. Garland and Sunnye traveled during his service in the Air Force but they spent most of their lives in Abilene, hosting family gatherings at the Allen Family home.
Post military retirement, Garland graduated from Hardin-Simmons University with a degree in law enforcement. He served as a deputy sheriff with the Taylor County Sheriff's Office, conducted polygraph examinations as well as other investigatory matters. After retirement from the Sheriff's Office, Garland conducted polygraph exams in the private sector. Garland was an accomplished artist in oil. He built and repaired violins, enjoyed model airplane construction, model trains, and his favorite feline friends, Tasha and Red.
Garland was preceded in death by his wife, Sunnye on August 14, 2006; their only child, David Peter Ellison on May 18, 1993; parents and sisters, Lucille Griffin, Grace Holt and Lena Bert Warner.
He is survived by grandsons, Brandon Lee Ellison and Bryon David Ellison; daughter-in-law, Jeannie Ann Seay Ellison; niece, Ann Wagner and husband, John Wagner; along with other nieces, nephews, and friends.
