Forrest "Scrub" Akins, 84, of Webster, Florida, died Sunday, Jan. 18, 2015. He was born Aug. 10, 1930, in Linden, Florida. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Linden and he was a member of the Masonic Lodge of Bushnell and the Sumter County Farmers Market. He was an aircraft mechanic instructor in the United States Air Force. He worked for the State of Florida Beverage Department for many years and then retired to farming in Sumter County. He liked farming and gardening. He liked to tinker on equipment and loved to spend time with his cats, "Tommy" and "Sissy". He is survived by his daughter, Diana "Kay" (Scott) Barr of Tampa; brother, Paul (Becky) Akins of Webster; sister, Barbara "Sue" Parker of Webster; special niece and caretaker, Carolyn Hunt of Webster; step sons, Edge (Kay) Roberson of Webster, Chuck (Kelly) Roberson of Lake Panasoffkee; step daughters, Glenda (Dwight) Valentine of Franklin, North Carolina, Charlotte (Donald) Judy of Webster; eight step-grandchildren; five step- great-grandchildren; and three step-great-great-grandchildren; and Kay's mother, Betty Akins Smith. He was preceded in death by wife, Mary Jaffee Akins; and wife, Raymelle Roberson.
