A. J. Chalfin, one of the oldest settlers of Moffit, peacefully breathed his last at his farm home near Moffit Monday morning, surrounded by nearly the entire family. The deceased was injured in a fall some months ago, the result of which and being well along in years brought on pneumonia that his strong will power but failing strength could not surmount. He was born in Kentucky, Dec. 14, 1838, moving to his farm near Moffit many years ago. The deceased is survived by Mrs. Sarah Chalfin, his wife, and the following children: Mrs. W. D. Briscoe, LaBelle, Mo., Joe Chalfin, Wilton, N. D., Mrs. John Baker, Hazelton, N. D., Mrs. Mattie Koon, Temvik, N. D., Mary Scott, Glenwood, Minn., Mrs. Oscar Slater, Moffit, N. D., Mrs. W. C. Washburn, Moffit, N. D., and the Misses Viola and Francis Chalfin at home. The funeral services were held from the home, Rev. Jackson of Bismarck delivering the sermon, from where a long line of carriages formed in a solemn and impressing procession to Sterling where imposing funeral rites were held. Several beautiful floral wreaths were sent.
