John Peter Kuipers Obituary
When I knew John we were working for Lucky Stores Supermarket. We were heavy duty truck and trailer mechanics working in the truck shop that was in there main distribution center located in Buena Park, California.
John was an extremely smart person and he used a lot of common sense.
John was a Master Journeyman Technician and worked on every component of trucks or trailers. He also worked on his own family cars and helped his neighbors with their automobile mechanical problems.
His diagnostic skills were so good that if another mechanic couldn't find the problem they would always come to John for help.
John was an easy person to get to know. He was very friendly and had a positive attitude. He loved teaching and sharing his knowledge. He had a great sense of humor.
One day there were about four or five of us standing around talking and joking. Well one guy was standing and leaning against a truck, his work boots were black. Well John took a can of white spray paint and crawled under the truck from the opposite side of the truck so the mechanic that was leaning against the truck wouldn't see him. John was crawling very quietly. Well we all saw what John was about to try and do, so we all started talking a little louder so the mechanic wouldn't hear John crawling. John reached for the mans shoes and started spray painting his work boots white. By the time the mechanic figured out what was happening John had painted both his boots white. We were all laughing so hard that it was hard standing. Even the mechanic with the white work boots was laughing.
That was one of the best practical jokes of my life time.
Another time John stuffed paper into the toes of a mechanic work boots so his foot wouldn't fit in. When the mechanic came to work and started changing his clothes and then tried putting his boots on. Well at first he couldn't figure out why his boots didn't fit. Then he looked up and saw all of us with big smiles on our faces and then he knew he had been had. That was a good one. We all got a good laugh when the mechanic kept trying to get his foot in his boot and when he finally figured out what was happening he too got a good laugh!
John was admired, respected and loved by everyone. He was missed even before he retired.
John had a wonderful wife named Gladys. Every time I called their house she always asked how my wife and kids were doing. She was always very friendly never put anyone off.
In John last few years he had Alzheimer's disease which was hard on him and his family.
To me no way is a good way to die but Alzheimer's disease is not a good way to die for a man that has served his country, raised a beautiful family, supported his church and is admired and loved by everyone.
Thank you for your Service John. God Bless you, we miss you!
Rest In Peace My Friend!
