Deceased Name: Loyd F. Adams

Loyd Franklin "Kansas" Adams passed away Saturday, Oct. 28, 2006, at Denali Center after a battle with lung cancer.

Born on Feb. 26, 1935, in Seneca, Mo., Loyd proudly served his country in the U.S. Marine Corps. He moved to Fairbanks in 1957 and worked for Teamsters Union Local 959 as a truck driver. He most recently worked from Clear Air Force Station and retired in the mid-1990s. Loyd was a member of the Pioneers of Alaska, Igloo No. 4.

Loyd loved to watch NASCAR racing and other sports and was an avid Jeff Gordon fan. He enjoyed western movies especially films about the Old West.

His family said, "Loyd never met a stranger and always had a kind word to share. He had a great sense of humor and loved to tease. He had a quiet pride in his one-quarter Native American heritage."

Loyd was preceded in death by his parents, Fern and Walter Adams; brother, Wayne Adams; and sister, Betty Adams Seal.

Loyd is survived by his loving wife, Mary Canada Adams of Fairbanks; sons and daughter-in-law, Guy, Michael and Eric Adams, all of Hawaii; Vern and Jeanette Canada of Fairbanks and Jim Canada of Seattle; brother, Kenneth Adams; several nieces and nephews; and great-nieces and great-nephews.

A celebration of life will be held at 2 p.m., Thursday, Nov. 2, at First Presbyterian Church, 547 Seventh Ave., with Sandy Hampton officiating.

The family requests memorial donations be sent to your favorite charity. Friends may send condolences to Mary at 3704 Erickson Ave., Fairbanks, AK 99709.
