John A. Jackson, a prominent farmer of the Shafer and Franconia communities, passed away at the Taylors Falls Hospital early Friday morning, Sept 12, 6 days after he had been suddenly seized with an acute illness. He was 65 years old.

Strangulated hernia and complications caused his death. His health had not been good for several years, but he was able to attend to his duties on the farm. On Saturday morning, Sept 6, he became suddenly ill and was rushed to the hospital. The same day an operation was performed and on Thursday physicians operated a second time in an effort to save his life, but the attempts were futile. He finally succumbed at 1:30 am Friday.

Funeral services were conducted at the Swedish Lutheran Church, Taylors Falls at 2:00 Sunday afternoon. Rev. C. E. Cesander officiated and interment was at Kahbakong Cemetery. The church choir sang one hymn and two others were sung by Theodore J. Stolberg. Pallbearers who escorted the remains to their final resting place were: F. W. Hobart, Oscar Hogland, Oscar Grandstrand, A. Hendricks, Frank A. Johnson, and Gust Hammerberg.

John August Jackson was born in Hofmantorp, Sweden, on October 31, 1864 and at the time of his death had reached the age of 65 years, 10 months, and 11 days. His father died when he was but a child and sometime later his mother left the old country and sailed for America with her three sons. She settled at Rush Lake, but soon afterward the mother passed away, leaving the three young children.

They were sent to an orphanage near Red Wing, MN, where they remained while growing to manhood. On June 24, 1893 he was joined in marriage to Almina Rosabel Slattengren. They lived near Langford, SD nearly 10 years before coming to this county and state. Here they made their home in the Franconia community, southeast of Shafer, where they have since resided.

Mr. Jackson joined the Taylors Falls Church shortly after their arrival here and remained a faithful and active member of the rest of his life. He served the congregation as a deacon and trustee for several years and at the time of his death was treasurer of the church. He also held many other positions of trust, serving as town clerk in his township and as assessor the past 17 years.

Surviving are his sorrowing wife and six children, 1 brother, Edward Jackson of San Francisco, CA, many other relatives and a wide circle of friends. The children are: Dora Jackson, residing at home, Mrs. Donald Hammerberg of Madison, WI, Maude Jackson, Emery Jackson, Lott Jackson, and Wyman Jackson all residing at home. Another son and a daughter preceded their father in death.

Among those from out of town who attended the funeral services Sunday were: Mr. and Mrs. C. E. Berman of Chisolm, MN, Mr. and Mrs. Charles E. Nelson of River Falls, WI, Mr. and Mrs. P. H. Gilberg of Kalispell, MT, Mr. and Mrs. Adolph Beckum of Anoka, MN; Mr. and Mrs. L. A. Tauner, D. A. Lee and daughter Evelyn and Miss Hannah Whitcomb, all of Minneapolis; George Rodenburg and Mrs. E. L. Rodenburg and Mrs. E. L. Rodenburg and son George of St. Paul.
