Navy Petty Officer 3 Mudge was killed when he was electrocuted while working in a machinery space aboard the guided missile frigate Rentz while on a port call in Jebel Ali, United Arab Emirates. David was the fifth of seven children and spent his early years in Center Point. He graduated from the Phoenix School in Roseburg, Oregon in 2005. After hearing stories of military life from uncles and other relatives, he decided he wanted to see the world and experience new things. In January 2007, David joined the Navy and served aboard the frigate McClusky before reporting to Rentz in July 2009. His ability to be a quick learner meant he was often pulled from his regular duties to attend to new tasks. When he finished his time in the Navy, David wanted to work on diesel engines in the civilian world.
