Dorothy, age 93, passed away peacefully on Thursday. She was born the daughter of Theodore & Clara (Haupt) Junge, who farmed in rural Morrisonville. Dorothy graduated from DeForest Union High School in 1934, and attended cosmetology school in Madison. She married Jerome Harvey in 1940 at Faith Lutheran Church of Morrisonville, and they farmed in rural Town of Windsor. Dorothy was a bookkeeper for Hamre Feeds, American Breeders Service, DeForest Chase Lumber, and J.C. Penney. She was a member of the Merry Maids Homemakers Club and the DeForest Area Study Club. An active member of Windsor United Church of Christ, she taught Sunday School, attended Rachel Circle, and served in many other capacities of church life.
Dorothy's faith was the bedrock on which all else rested, and her family was her greatest blessing and joy. She was the most loving, supportive and joy-filled wife, mother, grandmother and mother-in-law that anyone could possibly have. Through the years, countless people described her as a "ray of sunshine". She had a great capacity for friendship, always seeing the good qualities in others, and her kindness and sunny disposition drew people to her throughout her life. For Dorothy, cooking was "love made visible". Family and friends alike were nourished by her excellent homestyle cooking, and the warmth and hospitality of her table. Like so many of her generation, Dorothy faced life's challenges with true grace and quiet courage. She rarely complained or dwelled on the past, and looked to the future with unshakable optimism. Dorothy's radiant spirit will continue to be an inspiration to all who knew her. She is survived by her children, Gail Kempfer, Bonnie (Dwight) Ziegler, and Alan (Diane) Harvey, all of DeForest/Windsor; six grandchildren, Gina (Staffan) Wide, Brad (Amy) Ziegler, Beth (Rick) Mueller, Lisa Kempfer, Erin Harvey, Chandra Harvey, and Teague Harvey; twelve greatgrandchildren; and a sister-in-law, Eleanor Junge. She was preceded in death by her parents; beloved husband, Jerome; brother, Lloyd Junge, an infant brother; and grandson Charles "Chaz" Kempfer. A celebration of Dorothy's life was held at Windsor United Church of Christ with Pastor David McDonald officiating. Private burial was held. In lieu of flowers, donations in Dorothy's memory may be made to Windsor United Church of Christ or Easter Seals Wisconsin. The family would like to thank the staff of Waunakee Manor and Dean Healthcare; Rev. David McDonald, and the caring and supportive members of Windsor United Church of Christ and Parkside Retirement Community for their many kindnesses to Dorothy. She treasured every visit, note and card. "We thank God for the tremendous blessing that you were to all of us, and you will be missed more than words can express. We stand in the assurance that you are in God's loving presence, joyfully reunited with your beloved Jerome and loved ones who have gone before, and we pray that your legacy of love and faith will live on in each one of us."
